New wildfire reported near Butte

BUTTE, Mont. — Officials say the Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department responded to a brush fire in the German Gulch area east of Butte this morning.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a small fire crawling under nearby trees.

Firefighters used lines to extinguish the fire before searching for hot spots.

After completing these actions, crews transferred the fire to the Forest Service.

Even with recent rainfall in the area, wildfires could still start and spread, officials warn.
