Leila! on her hiatus year, Cash Cobain and proving she’s “cool at making music for real”

Leila! on her hiatus year, Cash Cobain and proving she’s “cool at making music for real”

One year break masterfully conveys the changing moods of adolescence and teenage love; Laila’s lyrical vulnerability! evident in confessional tracks like “SINK 2 RISE,” “RU Down?” and “Blackberry (Date 4 Prom),” while the unapologetic three-track “We’re So Over!”, “IDONTNEEDUANYMORE” and standout track “Not My Issue” showcase her unique strengths: sensitivity, independence, flair. and premature shine. All the ingredients needed to be a Gen Z It Girl.

The singer’s song “Not My Issue” was used for the super track “Problem” by the group Cash Cobainwhich samples the chorus of Laila!, featuring Anycia, Chow Lee, Fabolous, Kenzo B, Big Sean, Flo Milli, 6LACK, Flee, YN Jay, Luh Tyler, Kaliii, Lay BanksDon Q and Rob49.

“It (happened) really quickly, but it was really cool,” says Leila! “I was introduced to all these artists for the first time through my sample or whatever, so that was really cool. I’ve never been tried before… (Cash) started sending out his beat. People started jumping on it.”

2024 has become a year of monumental new products for Leila! – her Baby’s All Right performance was her first concert as a headliner. While she wouldn’t call her nerves “stage fright,” the singer says her anxiety can turn her anxiety into stress. Anxiety may be limiting Laila!’s current touring plans, but the freedom she displays on stage is a clear indication that she can handle it. After all, you can’t keep the flying girl from Brooklyn.
