The ongoing 16th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, has created a stir among fans. On the other hand, we often hear about the scam in the title of this popular show. In a similar incident, a person alleged that a woman posing as a CBI officer duped him of around Rs 3 lakh by promising him entry into KBC and guaranteed prize money. The woman also reportedly showed him a fake CBI ID and a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prove her authenticity.

A man from Erode district claimed at the PMO office that he was defrauded of around Rs 3 lakh on a false promise of winning a prize of Rs 15.6 crore on the TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Following this, the CBI registered a case under sections of cheating, forgery and the Information Technology Act.

The CBI filed a case against unknown persons, saying that the accused woman falsely identified herself as a senior CBI official and used the Prime Minister’s photograph to dupe the victim. The Prime Minister’s Office also lodged a formal complaint with the CBI following which a case was registered.

The man was initially told that he had won Rs 25 lakh from KBC Mumbai. The amount was later increased to Rs 15.6 million. In addition to this, the scammers also told the man that he has won another prize of Rs 75 lakh from the official staff of KBC Kolkata. The amount of the second claim was increased to Rs 2.75 crore. To initiate the scam, the fraudster then asked for around Rs 3 lakh in several settlements, claiming that it was needed to resolve a number of tax-related issues. The scammer noted that if he needs money, he must pay a certain amount.

“The woman demanded payment of several taxes totaling up to Rs 2.91 lakh, which the complainant paid in installments between 2022 and 2023 to receive the promised prize. The scammers used a fake ID in the name of Nandini Sharma. The identity card states that she was a special CBI officer,” the official said.
