‘Clean Slate’: Prince Harry criticized the media’s portrayal of his wife Meghan Markle in a new interview that went viral on social media

In an interview with ABC interviewer Michael Strahan in January 2023, which resurfaced on TikTok, the Duke of Sussex said the duchess entered the royal family in a different position than many of her predecessors, who had a “clean slate.”

“They come in almost with a blank slate and that gives the British press an opportunity to offer them a role,” he said.

“When Megan came into our family, they tried to do the same to her. But she started dating me when she was about thirty years old.

“She had a very public career where millions of people knew who she was because they followed her, but this time fans and people who knew Meghan objected and said that was categorically untrue.

“You can’t say that based on the fact that we know who she is.”

The new clip attracted the attention of about 77,400 people and received almost 6,000 likes.

The caption read: “So Prince Harry has never held back from reminding people that unlike other women who married into the royal family with a clean slate, Meghan had her own successful life, career, money, created her own life. your way in the world.

Fans took to the comments section to praise Harry, who has always supported his wife during her tumultuous time in the spotlight, for contributing to her success.

“They are perfect for each other,” one person said.

“Well said and I love that you are defending your wife,” said another.

“Facts on facts! She’s such a millennial woman, that’s why we young people like her,” a third person added.

Meghan was thrust into the world’s spotlight when she began a relationship with Prince Harry in 2016 after first meeting through Instagram.

The former US Suits star quickly found herself under intense media scrutiny and Harry was forced to instruct his communications secretary to release a statement expressing personal concerns about the tabloid portrayal of his then-girlfriend.

“Some of these events were very public—smears on the front page of a national newspaper; racial subtext in comments; and blatant sexism and racism in social media trolls and comments in web articles,” the statement said.

“Some of them were hidden from the public: nightly legal battles to keep libelous stories out of the newspapers; her mother had to navigate photographers to get to the front door; attempts by reporters and photographers to gain illegal access to her home and subsequent calls to the police; large bribes offered by newspapers to her ex-boyfriend; bombarding almost every friend, colleague and loved one in her life.”
