Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool Man of the match

Liverpool will leave Emirates Stadium happy with a point after coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Arsenal.

The hosts took the lead in the 9th minute when Bukayo Saka raced to Ben White’s pass before outwitting Andy Robertson to slot past Caoimhin Kelleher.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk equalized just nine minutes later when he headed home from close range after Luis Diaz had taken a Reds corner.

Arsenal took control soon after and deservedly took the lead in the 43rd minute when Declan Rice’s brilliant cross from the right found Mikel Merino’s header.

Arne Slote’s side improved significantly after the break and equalized when Trent Alexander-Arnold found Darwin Nunez behind the Arsenal defence. The Uruguayan picked out Mohamed Salah in the box and the Egyptian made no mistake to beat David Raya from twelve yards.

The point was a fair reflection of the game, with Liverpool one point behind leaders Manchester City but still four ahead of the Gunners.

It was a largely disappointing day for the Merseysiders as their numbers were below par and perhaps feeling the effects of three games in seven days.

However, one man who stood out above the rest was centre-back Ibrahima Konate, who has maintained his fine form since the start of the season.

Time after time he fended off threats on Arsenal’s left flank with his physical strength, constantly overpowering the dangerous Gabriel Martinelli. Things might have been different had the Frenchman not been playing against quality opposition, and it is hoped the 25-year-old will remain fit to continue this impressive run alongside Van Dijk at the heart of the Reds’ rearguard.
