PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) – Multiple images were heard on body camera video as Sarpy County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a home where they later found a dead Omaha teacher.

Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis reviewed footage of several of those videos during a news conference Thursday morning. It was the second such message he had provided since then. Deputies found 45-year-old Rebecca Geiger dead in her Chalco Hills home. early on Monday morning, October 28th.

Deputies responded to a report of domestic violence. Authorities said Geiger’s 19-year-old daughter called 911 and told operators that her father, 44-year-old Rory Geiger, had shot her mother and that he had pointed a gun at her.

The response ended in gunfire at a home near South 143rd Street and Meadows Parkway. Officers then entered the home and found Rory Geiger dead. Davis confirmed Thursday that he was shot by responding deputies; They were previously unsure whether his fatal wounds were self-inflicted or from a gunshot fired by a Sarpy County deputy.

The case is expected to be heard by a grand jury in the coming weeks.

Davis said Thursday there was much more body camera footage, but he wanted to release some of it to show what his deputies faced and make it clear why they responded the way they did.

The couple’s two daughters were in the house when the shooting began. David praised the deputies’ actions that day, repeating Thursday that their actions likely saved the lives of one or both daughters, as well as their neighbors.

“They’re heroes in my book—every one of them,” he said.

In the video released Thursday, four shots can be heard. Deputies came under fire as at least three of them positioned themselves along the garage door of the home.

“Shots fired! Shots!”

Davis said Thursday that the suspect fired the first shot from a “high-powered rifle,” shattering the glass of a storefront. He said deputies reported seeing the barrel of what appeared to be a Savage 270 Winchester bolt-action rifle pointed out the window in the moments that followed.
