Norderland student dances on the way to the Netherlands

POLOKWANE – Noorderland’s Akani Hlungwani (10) has been selected to represent South Africa for the South African Dance Foundation (SADF) at the 2024 World Dance Council Amateur League (WDC AL) World Championships on November 2 in the Netherlands.

Hlungwani, along with her dance partner Molemo Moholane, won the South African Championships and the Federation of Dance Sports of South Africa (FEDANSA) National Championships out of 32 dance teams, with the competition held at the Ngoako Ramahlodi Sports Complex in Seshego. .

The duo’s outstanding performance earned them the prestigious title of South African Youth Latin American Champions, as well as recognition as ambassadors for the South African Dance Foundation.

Hlungwani’s journey into Latin dance only began in 2022, but she has quickly established herself through passion and hard work. “This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I’m really excited to be part of the World Cup.”

Despite her short time in the dance industry, this will be her second time performing internationally.

In 2023, Hlungwani and Moholane represented South Africa at the Akani Hlungwani tournament in Noderderland to represent South Africa at the 2024 World Dance Championships in the Netherlands after winning the WDC AL National Latin Dance Championships and the Dutch Open World Championships in Assen, the Netherlands. Their return to the world stage in 2024 reflects their continued growth and excellence.

Adelaide Hlungwani, Akani’s mother, expressed pride in her daughter’s achievements. “She is a sweet, funny and respectful young girl. I always support her in everything she does because I want her to succeed,” Adelaide said.
