Elijah View death: Mother pleads not guilty to charges

Mother of Elijah View, a three-year-old boy whose Skeletal remains were found months after her disappearance, pleaded not guilty to the charges against her Wednesday in Manitowoc County court.

Katina Baur, 31, is charged with two felonies including chronic child neglect (with death as a consequence) and two misdemeanors in the case. Court records show she remains jailed on $400,000 bail.

Baur’s boyfriend, 39-year-old Jesse Wang, is also charged with physical abuse of a child, concealing a dead body and resisting/obstructing a police officer. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 6 and remains in custody on $500,000 bail.

View went missing from his Two Rivers home on Feb. 20.

The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office said a deer hunter found human remains in a wooded area of ​​Two Rivers on Sept. 7. The discovery was made on private property near the Manitou quarry and camp.

The Wisconsin State Crime Lab conducted DNA testing of the remains, including the skull and bones, to confirm they belonged to Wu. Police said the family was notified as soon as DNA testing confirmed the identity of the remains.

Police said the location where Vue’s remains were found is just over three miles from where he disappeared. Meinnert said different groups had previously searched the area near Manitou Drive several times.

After examining the remains of a human skeleton, a forensic expert determined that the cause of death of the three-year-old child was a murder committed by an unknown method. Another test showed that Vouet had facial fractures.

The night before Vue disappeared in February, Vang told investigators he was watching a movie at home, the criminal complaint said. However, investigators found surveillance video from that night that showed Vang leaving the suitcase near St. Vincent de Paul and then driving away through Manitowoc County. Detectives found DNA inside a suitcase they said belonged to View.

Police said they recovered deleted Facebook messages that Baur sent to Wang on Feb. 20 – the day Wu went missing – asking him to “say you guys took a nap and he left” and adding: “The way you You say it’s very important.”
