LTTE: Former Select board members support CPA

LTTE: Former Select board members support CPA

To the editor:

As former members of the Swampscott Select Board, we are writing to urge residents to vote “YES” on Ballot Item #6, the Community Preservation Act (CPA).

This Massachusetts law is a powerful tool for funding historic preservation, affordable housing, and open space/recreation opportunities.

The statewide Community Preservation Act Fund received money from our city, but never directly funded any of our initiatives because we did not approve participation. Neighboring towns such as Nahant and Salem have renovated their lifeguard stations, veterans’ housing, parks and beaches. More than 195 communities benefited from these funds. We are behind the curve.

CPA will benefit all members of the Swampscott community. There are exceptions for senior households with incomes of less than $104,000 and families under 60 with incomes of less than $83,000 per year. Learn more at www.SwampscottCPA.com. We encourage you to vote “YES” on Question #6 to help our city enhance public benefits for all residents.
