Three words from Paul McCartney to Chrissie Hynde before Liverpool concert

Chrissie Hynde performed to a sold-out crowd at Hope Street Philharmonic Hall and the star couldn’t help but share the message she received from Sir Paul when he heard she was in his home town.

Paul McCartney’s three simple words of encouragement to rock legend Chrissie Hynde earned him a standing ovation from a sold-out crowd at Liverpool Philharmonic last night. Chrissie Hynde performed with The Pretenders on a UK tour in support of the band’s new album, Relentless.

Music icon Chrissy took to the Hope Street stage with an impressive setlist spanning over four decades in the industry. The star performed hits including Kid, I’ll Stand By You and Don’t Get Me Wrong, as well as material from her latest album, in the high-energy two-hour show.

And it was before one of The Pretenders’ biggest hits, Don’t Get Me Wrong, that Chrissy shared a message she received from Sir Paul McCartney before going on stage. Taking a break between songs to address the crowd, Chrissie joked: “Bob Dylan told me never to say a name, but this morning I texted Paul McCartney, ‘Hey Paul, I’m in your town.’ He answered and said, “Rock.” their Scousers.”

This drew thunderous applause from the crowd, who immediately jumped to their feet as soon as they heard the opening chords of the band’s 1986 single. And The Pretenders kept the crowd on their feet for the rest of the set, with lead guitarist James Walbourn’s astounding solos drawing applause and applause from across the concert hall.

At the start of the performance, the band’s vocalist Chrissie paid tribute to her late bandmates James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon, who were part of the band’s original line-up.

Dedicating 1979’s Kid to her late bandmates, Chrissie said: “This song is for James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon – without them we wouldn’t be here. And if they were still here, they’d still be here without us.” “Guys, put the kettle on, we’re not falling behind.”

Chrissie’s comments as she waved into the distance might have seemed like an acknowledgment of her advancing years. But at 73, she remains every bit an icon and a rock star. The quality of her vocals, her commanding presence on stage and her no-holds-barred attitude (she didn’t even get to the chorus of the first song before scolding a fan for filming the show on a smartphone) all highlight why she’s still doing it.

Stomping around the stage in thigh-high boots, rocking out with her bandmates and performing fierce new material, she’s clearly still a force to be reckoned with.
