A man hit by a VIAtrans minibus while trying to cross a highway died, VIA reports.

SAN ANTONIO – A man died after he was hit by a VIA Metropolitan Transit van while trying to cross the 410th ring, VIA reports.

The crash happened around 3:40 a.m. Thursday in the westbound lanes of Beltway 410 near the Evers Road exit.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died, VIA reported.

All westbound lanes of Beltway 410 were closed from Callaghan Road to Evers Road while crews worked to clear the scene. Transguide cameras showed the lanes were opened at around 5.45am.

SAPD, TxDOT and VIA Transit Police were on scene.

A VIA spokesman said in a statement Thursday morning that there were no passengers in the van at the time of the crash.

SAPD said the investigation is ongoing.
