Problem with a $750 Ryder Cup ticket? This idea might just solve everything

Dear PGA of America,

Hello! I love your PGA Championship Male And Female. love us a little pro club and some club professional instructions. (By the way, the piece is no longer there!) It is in that spirit that this note is delivered today, as your showcase event, the Ryder Cup, appears to have caught the man by the proverbial cabbage, charging fans $750 for admission to next year’s edition at the venerable Bethpage Black , on Long Island in New York. Simply put, people had their zippers come down a quarter of the way. It’s like someone assuming that the bagels and pizza in the host city are substandard.

But we’re here to help, not to pile on. In fact, one solution can make all the difference.

However, some background is required first. Sounds logical. So why such horror? Because $750 is about three times what it cost to get through the turnstiles at the last two Ryder Cups. in Wisconsin in 2021And in Italy last year. But that’s not all. This Ryder Cup is played in Bethpagemuni, which means anyone can stick it there – and for a fee quite possibly less than what they’d pay for a golf ball-eating monster. GOLF James Colgan, himself a native of Lier, eloquently developed this topic recently wrote:

“A $750 Ryder Cup ticket… tells us that golf belongs to someone, not everyone. This suggests that we should recognize this reality and not complain. This separates those who love golf from those who can afford it.

“Bethpage has never cared about the haves and the have-nots. He has earned his favor precisely because he rejects golf’s less worldly ideals of elitism and exclusivity. Establishing these ideals for the Ryder Cup is not only an affront to everything Bethpage stands for, it is a sign that the PGA of America has never understood this in the first place.”

In other words, the situation here is more confusing than on the Long Island Expressway during rush hour. But unlike the Jets and Giants, there is hope here.

There is a way to better – if not completely – accommodate the PGA’s wishes while respecting Bethpagian’s values. The solution comes straight from Bethpage itself, where people have been spent the night in a tent on the field in hopes of getting into one of the morning matches on the field. So, we offer the following:

Set up Ryder Cup night stand, where fans can get refunds on tickets they’ve already purchased—and get in for just a green fee. By the way, this is the best part – to gain access to the lot, you need to have played one round at Bethpage Black in the past year.

You may have questions, let’s try to answer them.

How many fans are allowed on the ground? Let’s do 3000 a day, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

When can they start lining up? 3 am; if people show up early or without proof, they are turned away. When will they be allowed in? 3 am. Where can the site be located? Newsday headquarters, where fans were transported to the 2019 PGA Championship.

Why are round games necessary? You get Bethpage diehards. Why not just give people a cheaper ticket after the round is played? Good idea, but there will be a happy crowd at 3am. Rory back as soon as he drops the ball on the range.

Could it be chaos? Potentially. You can also mitigate the situation by giving away a total of 9,000 played rounds of passes, spread out over days.

Just imagine those fans on the first tee.

And think of those people who shed Bethpage’s blood and are now fed.

And think of you, the PGA of America, who just came up with perhaps the best fan concept ever.
