The Premier Pass allows visitors to take one ride on each available Lightning Lane attraction at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, including Rise of the Resistance and Radiator Springs Racers.

Let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of the new Lightning Lane Premier Pass at Disneyland.

Pros

1) Easy to use

The Premier Pass will appear on the main page of the Disneyland app after you purchase it.

Simply select an attraction, press the activation button and scan the barcode at the Lightning Lane entrance.

2) Ride whatever you want

You can ride any Lightning Lane ride whenever you want.

You don’t need a reservation and won’t have to worry about availability issues. There are no time limits or restrictions.

3) Freedom and flexibility

No more jumping around the park, running from one attraction to another. Just visit one attraction after another along any path you choose.

You don’t have to worry about booking Lightning Lane conflicting with your dinner plans or entertainment schedule.

4) Do it all

The Premier Pass is ideal for people who want to cover everything in a day and are willing to pay for the convenience.

With a Premier Pass, you can visit all of Lightning Lane’s 20 or so attractions, take in the parade and shows, and slow down for lunch and dinner before saying goodnight to the night’s spectacle.

Cons

1) Limited attractions

The Lightning Lane Premier Pass is only valid on 24 attractions at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

Without lines at Lightning Lane, you won’t be able to get into Peter Pan’s Flight, the Jungle Cruise, or dozens of other attractions. And this doesn’t work on any trip with a virtual queue – like Haunted Mansion or Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

2) Breakdowns and repairs.

The Premier Pass price decreases depending on how many Lightning Lane attractions are closed on a given day.

You will not receive a refund if It’s a Small World or Big Thunder Mountain is undergoing seasonal renovations.

If Rise of the Resistance or The Indiana Jones Adventure fails – and that happens quite often – you won’t get any special treatment. You’ll just have to wait with everyone else to see if the attraction opens again.

3) No red carpet.

The $400 Premier Pass will keep you out of sight of everyone else on Lightning Lane. You’re mixed in with all the people who paid $32 for Multi-pass Lightning Lane route and those who use free Disability Access Service.

Once past the confluence point, you wait with people in the waiting line, which can take 5 to 10 minutes or more, depending on the ride.

4) Not for young families.

Many of the parks’ Lightning Lane rides have height requirements, meaning the Premier Pass won’t be suitable for families with kindergarteners and preschoolers.

Height Requirements: Rise of the Resistance, Radiator Springs Racers, Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Takeoff, and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakthrough – 40 inches. The Matterhorn Bobsled (42 inches), Grizzly River Run (42 inches), Indiana Jones Adventure (46 inches) and Incredicoaster (48 inches) have even stricter limits.
