Chicago Cubs Nightmare Scenario Suggests Former MVP Slugger Linked to Yankees

Chicago Cubs are entering the offseason on the heels of four consecutive missed postseasons, and the team has been less than competitive for much of the next decade since winning the World Series title in 2016.

With five missed postseasons and two Wild Card wins in eight seasons since 2016fans in Wrigleyville haven’t had much to cheer about lately.

Now the team’s best hitter looks set to become a free agent for the 2019 National League MVP. Cody Bellinger and this winter it could be another dagger in the chest.

Bellinger is under contract but has a $27.5 million player option, which he is widely expected to decline and hit the open market for a third straight season.

Signing a one-year deal with Chicago ahead of the 2023 season, Bellinger had his best season since his MVP campaign and signed another three-year contract with opt-out clauses both this winter and 2026 if he decides to opt out this offseason.

As for the possibilities of where Bellinger could sign if he does become a free agent, Christopher Kline from FanSided named New York Yankees like a potential doomsday scenario that would make Cubs fans sick.

“Cody Bellinger would certainly fill a need for New York, whose outfield depth chart would become terribly patchy if Juan Soto escapes in free agency,” Kline wrote. “But this result just sucks. At least choose a more interesting, esoteric destination.”

Cline further noted that his fellow former Cubs legend Anthony Rizzo I’ve already seen my career survive the recession after he went to the Yankees, and seeing another fan favorite go to the Bronx and get a big money deal from the biggest brand in baseball would be almost unbearable.

While it wouldn’t necessarily be a disaster from a competitive standpoint if Bellinger moved across the country to play in the American League, no one wants to see him go and end up owning perhaps the most hated team in sports that just won the World Series. series. appearance. If Chicago can’t convince Bellinger to commit, keep an eye on New York, especially if Juan Soto ends up in a different place.
