Munford is moving post office to better serve the community.

MANFORD, Alabama ((VBRK) – If you live in Munford, your post office will be moving soon.

This comes on the heels of a highway widening project that will include the demolition of the building that houses the current post office.

Mayor Jo Ann Fambrough says she learned several years ago that Munford would lose its post office, leaving neighbors with the option of driving to Oxford or Talladega to get their mail.

Mayor Fambrough says with the expansion of Highway 21, she had to come up with a plan that would best serve Munford residents. After two years of planning, the current post office will be moved to an on-site senior center where they will be located in the same building, the mayor said.

She says the move will allow Munford to continue its relationship with the Postal Service without putting a strain on the people who depend on it.

“We went to Steve Hurst and he got us an extension from the state because this building does belong to the state,” Mayor Fambrough said. “They bought it years ago because they were widening Highway 21, and now that Cedars is expanding, that building won’t be there anymore.”

Mayor Fambrough says they are still in the process of finalizing a lease. There is no time frame for when the move will take place.
