Select Your Crown is giving recipients 100 wigs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — People got a free wig at a factory in Franklin. The founder of the event said that when women and children received it, they left the event feeling different than when they arrived.

As Markeisha Wardell tried on a wig for one of the 100 recipients suffering from hair loss, she revealed more about the charity she started called Choose Your Crown.

“So it really grew: I made a hundred wigs by hand the first year,” Wardell said. “I started posting it and we had some amazing stylists who said I see what you’re doing and so the first year turned into the second, third, fourth.”

While she was getting her wig fitted, Paula Robinson-Nelson volunteered while she was wearing the wig.

“I was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and all my hair fell out and my hair was a joy,” Robinson-Nelson said. “They put it on me, dressed me and made me up, and when I looked in the mirror I thought, wow, this is really me.”

Back inside and backstage, Wardell put the finishing touches on the wig and passed the mirror to show the recipient her new crown.

A trip to see some of our neighbors’ best Halloween decorations.

There are only a few days left until Halloween. Americans are expected to spend about $12 billion on candy, costumes and jewelry this year. Over the past few years, it seems like more and more people are going out of their way to decorate their homes. Forrest Sanders had the opportunity to visit several communities in the middle of the state to see some of these Halloween decorations.
