Woman loses sight in one eye after attack with paintball guns near 63rd and Normandy; Chicago police are looking for suspects

CHICAGO (WLS) — The 19-year-old was just steps away from her Southwest Side home when someone shot her and several others with a paintball gun.

“They were both lying on the floor, crying and screaming, their hot chocolate was on the floor next to them,” said Adrian Murillo, the victim’s brother.

Halloween night ended tragically for Adrian’s little sister, Vicki.

Vicki’s family said one of those shots hit her in the face and doctors now believe her vision in one eye is permanently damaged.

Adrian said the criminals drove around the area and shot paintballs at people.

“They said this car followed them around the block and then turned around and stuck their phones out the window, started recording, and that’s when they shot paintballs at them,” Adrian said.

Vicki and her friend are now recovering from serious injuries they suffered near West 63rd Place and South Normandy Avenue.

Adrian said several of his neighbors were also shot with paintballs that same night and he was disappointed by the senselessness of the crime.

“It was crazy to me because they were wearing pink fluffy things. I don’t know who would attack young women like that,” Adrian said.

Now, family members say, doctors don’t believe Vicky will regain sight in her left eye.

“Unfortunately, this is very unlikely and if any vision is restored to this eye, it will be extremely blurred,” Adrian said.

The family said they continue to work with investigators to search for evidence online and in the surrounding area.

But at this time, CPD says no one has been arrested.
