Indiana man pleads guilty to assaulting law enforcement officers during Jan. 6 Capitol breach

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Troy Allen Cohen, 54, of Brownsburg, Indiana, pleaded guilty Friday to assaulting law enforcement officers during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol.

Cohen admitted to aggressively pushing through barricades and wielding a flagpole to break a glass door, and attacking officers as he joined other rioters in a violent attempt to disrupt Congress’ certification of the 2020 presidential election results.

According to court documents, Cohen led rioters in removing police barriers on the West Front of the Capitol and entered the Lower West Terrace tunnel armed with a flagpole reading “Trump 2020” and Confederate flags.

There, Cohen poked a flagpole at glass doors and police officers in an attempt to gain entry to the building.

Cohen was arrested by the FBI on November 9, 2023 in Indianapolis. He will be sentenced on February 26, 2025, before Chief U.S. District Judge James Boasberg.
