Hurricane-damaged Jackson County is considering spending 0,000 on road repairs

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) – Earlier this year, rain and flooding damaged two hiking trails in Jackson County.

Members of the Jackson County Legislature are expected to consider approving $500,000 for repairs to the Little Blue Trace Trail and Lake Vista during a meeting Monday afternoon.

Damaged sections of trails were closed for several weeks this spring. During this time, crews made temporary repairs to the washed-out areas. The repairs allowed both trails to reopen.

The county said permanent repairs are now needed to prevent further deterioration of the trails.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST: Rain will continue Sunday through Monday.

County leaders are expected to consider the cost of covering the paths with concrete instead of leaving them gravel, as is the case now.

Supporters said the change would make the trails more durable and prevent future flood damage. Lawmakers will ultimately decide whether they agree.

Money for renovations would come from the 2024 General Fund if lawmakers approve the plan.
