A 12-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after falling from a waterfall in the Highlands.

The alarm was raised on Friday evening after a girl fell into Steele Gorge near Fort William.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue teams attended the scene and pulled the victim to safety, using a rope system to return her to the footpath.

She was taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William with a suspected broken wrist and hip.

The girl was later transferred to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh. Her current condition is unknown.

A statement from Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team said: “On Friday evening we were called to the scene of a 12-year-old child who had fallen hard on a steep slope in Steele Gorge, Glen Nevis.

“With a suspected fractured wrist and hip, the team attended with colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“The team worked to stabilize and wrap the casualty while a rope system was used to pull the stretcher back onto the trail.

“Once on the road, the victim was carried into a waiting ambulance where he was transported to Belford Hospital in Fort William and then transported with colleagues from the Emergency Medical Service to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.

“As always, we would like to wish those affected all the best in their recovery.”
