Trump bids farewell to ‘big, beautiful rallies’ at last event before election

Former President Donald Trump said goodbye to his trademark rallies during a morning stop in Grand Rapids, Michiganhis last event of the 2024 election campaign.

“Your support means more than anything you can imagine… this is my last rally, can you believe it? The rallies, these big beautiful rallies, nothing like this has ever happened and there will never be anything like it,” Trump told his supporters in Van Andel. Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at a rally early Tuesday morning.

The comments came after a whirlwind day for Trump, who ended his 2024 campaign with stops in North CarolinaPennsylvania and Michigan.

The former president took the stage in Grand Rapids just after midnight Tuesday, meaning Trump addressed supporters at his final Election Day event in his final speech heading back to the White House.

Trump’s event in Grand Rapids marked the third time the former president has closed out his reelection campaign in the West Michigan city, completing his previous runs at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids in 2016 and at the city’s airport in 2020.

The event also highlighted how important the swing state of Michigan will be to his bid for the White House, a state where both campaigns teamed up to double the number of events and visits they held there in 2016 and 2020.

Trump narrowly carried the state in a race against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016, but then lost it President Biden Michigan promises to play a similar role in determining who ultimately wins in 2024, joining the states of Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as critical battlegrounds in this year’s election.

Trump, who has said this will be his last campaign even if he loses to Vice President Kamala Harris, struck a wistful tone at times during the Grand Rapids event as he thanked supporters in Michigan who have supported him through three presidential elections.

“You are truly incredible people,” Trump said. “Nine years have passed and we have fought shoulder to shoulder at every stage of our lives together.”
