19-year-old sentenced in fatal shooting at Garfield Heights Pizza Hut

CLEVELAND, Ohio (VOYO) – A 19-year-old Garfield Heights man who pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting at a Garfield Heights Pizza Hut earlier this year will be sentenced by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge William Vaudrey on Wednesday.

In October, Dakari Cook pleaded guilty to assault, manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the death of 20-year-old Anthony Hairston.

Garfield Heights Police Chief Mark Kaye said the shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Jan. 3 at a restaurant in the 5500 block of Turney Road.

Hairston died from his injuries on January 5 at Cleveland Clinic Marymount Hospital.

Chief Kaye added that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and both men knew each other.
