Chester County Veterans will receive free use of YMCA facilities on November 15th.

Chester County – Veterans Day is celebrated nationally on November 11th to honor those who serve our country. The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is showing gratitude by offering free wellness services to local veterans on Friday, November 15th.

Celebrations will be held at eight YMCA locations throughout Chester County, starting with breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Veterans are then offered free use of the YMCA, no membership required. Amenities include cardiovascular equipment, indoor pools, weight machines, showers and more. Veterans who are not members of YGBW will be required to present a valid photo ID at the front desk.

Serving those who serve

“We are proud to open our doors to veterans in our community,” says Bertram L. Lawson II, President and CEO of YGBW. “I grew up in a military family and deeply understand the sacrifice made by those who serve our country.”

Lawson’s father served four years in the Marines and one year in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, Lawson’s father worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard until his retirement.

“Many people in our community put country before themselves. We welcome veterans to our departments so we can celebrate their sacrifice,” Lawson continues.

Discounts for veterans.

Members and veterans of the United States Armed Forces are eligible for a 10% discount on membership dues at YGBW branches throughout Chester County. YGBW is also waiving the $99 entry fee with proof of service.

Active Duty Title 10 military personnel may be eligible for free YGBW membership through a partnership with the Department of Defense and the Armed Forces YMCA.
