MAY PEN, Clarendon – Clarendon College’s quest for a third successive ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup title ended on Saturday when they lost 2-1 to Cornwall College at Glenmuir School to finish bottom of their round of 16 group.

It was the second round of 16 defeat and fifth overall in a disappointing season for Clarendon College, which has won four of its last five titles, including the DaCosta Cup and the Olivier Shield double last year.

Deshaun Talbert scored from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute to give Cornwall the lead in the Zone 2 match before Dante Escoffrey doubled the lead in the 43rd minute. Nicoli Forbes got a consolation for the departing champions in the 73rd minute.

Early qualifiers Munro College and Frome Technical, who played out a sluggish 0-0 draw at Llandilo Community Centre, were eliminated as the quarter-final qualifiers were named on Saturday.

Ocho Rios School booked their place in Zone 3 after a dramatic 2-2 draw against Dinthill Technical at Drax Hall left them ahead on goal difference, while St Elizabeth Technical School (STETHS) and Garvey Maceo won their games and left the game. Zone 1. They went to Munro College, Glenmuir High School, Grammar School and McGrath High School from Zone 4.

Keanu Reid scored a brace for Ocho Rios, including one timely added late in the second half, as they ended Dinthill Technical’s decade-plus run by at least reaching the quarter-finals.

Tyrese Gow and Raheem Harris gave Dinthill Technical what appeared to be a comfortable lead, but Reed pulled a goal back in the second half before his dramatic save was added in time.

STETHS beat Kemps Hill School 2-0 at the Wembley Center of Excellence to top Zone 1 with seven points, while Garvey Maceo beat Alfunsus Davis School 4-0 at Brookes Park with Malik Robinson scoring twice and they ended up scoring five points.

Frome Technical needed just one point against already qualified Munro College. Both teams made changes to their usual starting lineups and rarely got out of first gear in a dull game that featured few tackles and shots on goal.

Glenmuir School completed a perfect run by winning all three games without conceding a goal after Oraine Watson beat 10-man Happy Grove High 1-0 in the 10th minute at Carder Park.

Happy Grove finished the game with 10 men after Bonnie Chisholm, their top scorer this season, was sent off in the 80th minute for dangerous foul play.

Central School topped Zone 4 after beating qualifiers McGrath School 2-1 in a game played at Foga Road School.
