Topsham residents elect Rafael Macias as their representative in Maine House

Rafael Macias won the Maine House District 51 seat, according to unofficial election results Tuesday.

Macias, a Democrat, received 3,498 votes to Leon Brillant’s (Republican) 2,285 for the House seat representing Topsham.

Speaking to The Times Record, he expressed excitement about heading to the House and said he hopes Democrats will retain control of the state House and Senate. He also expressed disappointment with the results of the national elections.

Macias served in Afghanistan, where he was a convoy commander and led a detachment of sailors assigned to the Kabul Military Training Center.

When he returned to the United States, he served as assistant chief of supply at Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and was responsible for manning and training the crew of the USS Stockdale (DDG-106).
