Israel is outraged by the appointments of Israel Katz and Gideon Saar – Israel Politics

After the scandal that started with the Prime Minister Benjamin NetanyahuFollowing the dismissal of outgoing Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday evening, the Knesset approved new government appointments at a rare plenum on Thursday.

Israel Katz was appointed Minister of Defense and Gideon Saar as Minister of Foreign Affairs. In addition, the plenum approved the appointment of Ze’ev Elkin as minister.

During the meeting, which began at approximately 20:00 and lasted until 1:00 am, Knesset members insulted and attacked each other from all sides.

During Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi’s speech against the opposition, opposition leader Yair Lapid shouted at him, calling him: “Poison, draft dodger, absolute zero.”

A total of 58 Knesset members supported the new appointments without any opponents, as every member of the opposition decided to leave the plenum in protest of Gallant’s dismissal.

Social media storm

Likud member Tali Gottlieb attacked Gallant on social media after news of his dismissal, supporting Netanyahu’s choice.

“The Security Minister with defeatist statements, with statements that undermine the Prime Minister during the war, must go,” she wrote on X/Twitter on Tuesday.

Katz’s appointment caused a storm in Israeli society with mass protests and second “Gallant Night” This happened across the country as many disgruntled citizens took to social media to express their disapproval.

“I thank Prime Minister Netanyahu for the confidence he placed in me in appointing me as Secretary of Defense,” Katz wrote.

“I accept this responsibility with a sense of mission and holy fear for the security of the State of Israel and its citizens.”
