Positives and concerns after the Nebraska football team was nearly upset on Ohio Street.

Dr. Rob upset many fans after Nebraska’s close loss to Ohio State. He gave Nebraska’s special teams an F+, although the Huskers have found a kicker who can make field goals from some distance.

In this episode of the Husker Doc Talk podcast, Dr. Rob explains his assessment. While his field goal shooting is good, other aspects of his special teams execution leave him with a lot of room for concern.

One thing is for sure: the Huskers looked much better against Ohio State. In fact, they probably looked their best all year. The defense has slowed the skill development of Ohio State’s players. The offense forced the ball into the Buckeye defense, which has held teams on the ground to under 100 yards per game.

The judging wasn’t the best. This should by no means be an excuse, but a call or non-call here and there can have a serious impact on the game. What can be done to correct referee errors and improve call accuracy? Travis and Dr. Rob discuss some ideas.

UCLA comes to Lincoln on Saturday. The Bruins had a brutal schedule, losing to three top-10 teams. They have a bye week and before that a win over Rutgers. The Bruins aren’t a bad team, but they’re not a great team either. On paper, UCLA would be the “easiest” game on Nebraska’s schedule, and a win over the Bruins would clinch Nebraska’s bowl eligibility for the first time since 2016. Dr. Rob and Travis plan the next game and take a high-level look at the remaining games on the schedule.
