On Your Side will return or save $125,000 for viewers in October.

On Your Side will return or save 5,000 for viewers in October.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Sandy Girard has just over $16,000 left in her account. “I feel like I could just jump right now. I’m so happy. Grateful and appreciative,” she told On Your Side’s Gary Harper.

In October, she explained that the scammer was somehow convinced Navy Federal Credit Union will make two wire transfers from her checking account, for a total amount of about 16 thousand.

“I was hysterical. She (credit union representative) said someone called and said it was you. I said: no, it’s not me. I’m not trying to do that. She said, okay, calm down.”

Girard immediately disputed the fraudulent bank transfers and was told that any investigation could take months and she might not even get her money back.

But after On Your Side got involved and contacted Navy Federal, Girard says the credit union immediately returned the money to her account. Girard said, “I know for a fact that this would never have happened if I had not contacted you (Gary Harper).”

On Your Side also helped Bernie Rubenstein, who says he was promised a $500 Visa gift card if he switched to Dish for his television service. He did, but after waiting 7 months for that gift card, the Scottsdale man never received it. Rubinstein said: “This will not affect my lifestyle. But at the same time, I don’t like being screwed.”

Well, On Your Side contacted Dish and told them about Rubinstein’s missing $500. Once we did that, he got the best thing since the gift card. Dish provided him with a $500 credit to his account.

And then there’s Sean McElroy. When his house burned down while he was rebuilding it, The city of Phoenix insisted that it connect to the city sewer system.. They even forced him to dig up a septic tank.

But connecting to the city sewer system would cost McElroy a significant amount of money, which he and On Your Side didn’t think he would have to pay for.

After several news reports continually put pressure on city officials, they finally changed their minds at a meeting of the Development Advisory Board, whose members agreed McElroy could continue to use the septic tank.

This solution will save Sean over $100,000 after replacing the septic tank. “I really enjoyed seeing you guys there (at the hearing). This whole thing wouldn’t have even gotten to the starting blocks if you guys hadn’t helped us. So every time I see you guys, you’re my friends now,” McElroy said.

If you add up all the money that On Your Side was able to save or return in October, it comes out to $125,541. And for the whole year it is $345,863.
