Alpine skiing improved the constructors’ standings

The shocking double podium finish in the Alps came during the 2024 campaign, which had been a disaster for the team up to that point.

From the start of the season, Alpine have struggled for pace throughout 2024 and this has been reflected in their Constructors’ Championship standings ahead of Brazil. Going into the Sao Paulo race, Alpine was ninth in the constructors’ standings with just 14 points after 20 rounds of contention.

However, their stunning performance at Interlagos saw them more than triple their tally, adding 35 points to their weekend total.

Pierre Gasly finished third in Sao Paulo

Two of these were achieved in Saturday’s sprint, but as many as 33 were achieved during the Grand Prix, lifting the team from ninth place in the constructors’ championship to sixth.

As Karun Chandhok eluded in his race commentary, the difference between finishing ninth and sixth in the standings is significant if Alpine can hold it.

“So if Alpine jumps from ninth to sixth in the World Constructors’ Championship, this race will be a $50 million race for Alpine,” Chandhok exclaimed on air.

“Let this sink in. The one-time result will be worth $50 million if they can hold on to sixth place.”

With three rounds remaining in the season, Alpine will be desperate to meet the challenge Haas and Alpine are behind, only three and five points behind the French team respectively with three rounds remaining.
