Houston Rockets guard Fred VanVleet reacts to shooting problems

Houston Rockets point guard Fred VanVleet has had a rough start to the season.

The nine-year veteran made just 33 percent of his field goals, but he made some progress after making 8 of 13 field goals in the team’s 109-97 win over the New York Knicks.

Even though he had to struggle with the pitch, it didn’t change his approach.

“I’ll shoot him any time” VanVleet told SportsRadio 610 reporter Adam Spolan.. “0 out of 20, 20 out of 20, I’m shooting. I play every game like it’s my last. I play to win. I don’t play for Twitter. I don’t play for statistics. I play to win every game and some people love it, some people hate it, but I play this game to win.”

The Rockets need VanVleet to shoot better if they want to compete in the Western Conference. While VanVleet has teammates who can take him on and help him out if he’s shooting poorly, the Rockets need a point guard who can be an excellent scorer.

With team options available at the end of the season, VanVleet will need to play better if the Rockets are going to keep him on the team beyond this year.

VanVleet and the Rockets return to action tomorrow night against the San Antonio Spurs.
