Huge A-list film tops Netflix charts for 15 weeks with millions of views

Despite some huge blockbuster films premiering on Netflix Over the past few months, one particularly stellar film has remained in the top 10 much longer than all the others.

Animated film Sing hit the big screen in 2016, following koala Buster Moon as he tried to save his struggling theater by hosting a singing competition that accidentally promised the winner a huge jackpot prize.

Matthew McConaughey led a star-studded cast along with Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer HudsonRhea Perlman, Nick Offerman, Seth MacFarlane, Taron EgertonNick Kroll and Jennifer Saunders.

The film grossed a whopping $634 million at the worldwide box office. led to a sequel in 2021.

Even though it came out eight years ago, fans are clearly still obsessed with the action in the bustling Moonlight Theater and continue to watch it in droves on Netflix.

In fact, it’s been in the top 10 charts on the streaming platform for 15 weeks now – and has been viewed over 5,400,000 times in the last seven days alone, for a total of around 9,800,000 hours watched.

It was the sixth most popular movie this week, surpassed only by the acclaimed new thriller Stay Still, Anna Kendrick’s Woman of the Hour and the Martha Stewart documentary she premiered publicly.

Sing definitely premiered beyond expectations, which meant the second installment was a no-brainer for movie bosses.

In the sequel, Buster and his co-stars debut a new show at the Crystal Tower Theatre, headlined by reclusive Clay Calloway, voiced by the real Bono.

Sing 2 was also a success in theaters and spent 13 weeks in the top 10 on Netflix, with a third film on the way.

Details about Buster’s next adventure are scarce, but director Garth Jennings, who was behind the first two installments, previously confirmed that he would not participate.

Talking to Metro After the release of Sing 2, he told us: “I know for a fact that we have a great, great, great idea. It would be great to do this.

“However, I would not become a writer and director if this happened. I would take a step back and let other people bring it from here.

“But we just have to see what happens when he finishes his work, and whether the world… I don’t know what state the world will be in.”

“But I hope for the sake of the artists here in the studio that we can do it, because that would be really, really cool.”

Sing is available to stream now on Netflix.
