Hoda admitted she suffered from ‘imposter syndrome’ after adopting her daughters

Hoda Kotb became a mom at 52 after adopting her first daughter, Hayley, now 7, and again when her second daughter, Hope, 5, joined the family in 2019. Although Hoda spoke openly about how much she missed her childrenShe says that she had to go through some psychological changes when she started having them.

At TODAY’s Making Space Wellness Weekend session with Hoda Kotb, sponsored by Miraval Resorts & Spas, the TODAY host spoke with bestselling author Susie Welch about how to live the life you want. During the conversation, the topic of impostor syndrome came up – when you doubt your abilities, despite high achievements.

“There are women who are at the top of their careers who we looked at and said, ‘Wow!’, who sat at home and thought to themselves, ‘Am I really good enough?’ Hoda told the audience.

“At some point, when I got to my kids, I said to myself, ‘I wonder if I deserve them.’ Imagine this feeling. It’s so crazy, but that’s what I thought,” she continued. “And I thought, ‘I’m just going to work really hard to get really good, because I’m not sure.'”

“It took me a while to realize that I deserve these kids. I’m here, I deserve to be their mother. I wanted this and I will take care of them as long as I can,” Hoda added. “I think we all have something here, but you (need) to realize, ‘I’m worth it.'”

At the next stage of Hoda’s life after she is leaving the TODAY show early next year, she’s looking forward to spending more time with her daughters. She recently moved with them to a new houseand says the family is adjusting well.

“You know what, you just get this feeling when you watch them grow. I thought, “They need more of me, and I need more of them.” And so I think it’s going to work out great,” she said in early October. appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

She previously spoke on TODAY about her decision to leave the show and the role her daughters played when she announced her departure at the end of September.

“Obviously, I had my kids late, and I thought they deserved a bigger piece of my time pie than I did,” Hoda said. “I feel like we only have a limited amount of time.”
