Early voting results show high turnout in Randall and Potter counties.

Early voting for the 2024 general election and joint special election saw high turnout in both Randall and Potter counties, with numbers slightly above record levels set in 2020. More than 76,000 residents in the Amarillo area have already voted, showing strong turnout ahead of Election Day, according to data released Friday. Early voting is up about 3.66% this year compared to 2020.

In Randall County, early voting locations include the Justice Center, the Annex, Southwest Library and Comanche Trail. The app consistently produces the highest turnout, with almost 2,000 votes recorded on the first day and maintained at high levels throughout the early voting period. Other popular spots include the Justice Center and the Southwest Library. By Nov. 1, the last day of early voting, a total of 53,313 in-person ballots were reported in Randall County. October 21 saw the highest single-day turnout, with 5,421 ballots cast. The daily turnout averaged between 4,000 and 5,000 people.

Potter County also saw consistent participation at early voting sites including the Santa Fe Building (Main), Casey Carpet One, Cornerstone, Fairgrounds and Northwest Library. The Santa Fe building led Potter County in turnout with 870 votes on the first day. As of Nov. 1, Potter County reported a total of 23,019 in-person ballots had been cast.

Voting by mail also played a significant role. Randall County received 2,294 mail-in ballots out of 2,695 mailed, as well as 134 additional ballots via Federal Postcard CA (FPCA) for military and overseas voters. In Potter County, 1,313 mail-in ballots were received out of 1,549 sent, as well as 61 FPCA ballots out of 99 sent.

In total, more than 76,000 ballots have already been cast in the Amarillo area. Turnout this year exceeded 2020, when 73,638 people voted early in person in both counties—50,419 in Randall County and 23,219 in Potter County—a 3.66% increase in early voting.

As early voting concludes, election officials in both counties report a smooth and efficient process and expect high turnout on Election Day. Voters who miss early voting are encouraged to carry proper identification.

The high level of civic engagement in the Amarillo area suggests the 2024 election will be one of the most inclusive in recent history.
