Cape Town dog owner arrested for cruelty after cutting off dog’s ears, SA furious

CAPE TOWNWESTERN CAPE – The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Cape Town has rescued a puppy whose ears were cropped by its owner.

The dog’s ears are cropped

According to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, the owner was arrested on October 25, 2024 after the SPCA investigated reports from the Edgemead community. Community members who saw four month old puppy with intact ears, they were horrified when they saw him without ears.

Dog owner arrested

An SPCA inspector investigated the incident and the owner admitted to hiring someone and paying him R3500 to cut off the ear. The entire test lasted an hour and took place in his entertainment room. He was arrested and accused of cruelty to animals. Puppy Troy was kept at the SPCA.

Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse stressed that ear cropping is illegal.

“No one is above the law and those who believe ear cropping is legal will be arrested and charged with animal cruelty,” he said.

Netizens are furious

Dog lovers on Facebook were outraged by the incident with the dog owner.

SPCA rescues ponies

In the corresponding article Brief news reported that the Cape of Good Hope SPCA rescued pony from cruelty.

An inspector driving through Kensington saw a pony pulling three times its own weight. He stopped the owners and saved the pony.
