Firefighters battle a wildfire on the Glade Top Trail near Ava, Missouri.

NEAR AVA, MO (KY3) – Mark Twain National Forest firefighters, including engines and a crew of Mark Twain veterans, battle a fire on the Glade Top Trail in Douglas County.

Firefighters began battling the so-called Sugar Fire on Monday evening. The fire has grown to about 700 to 800 acres about 12 miles south and southwest of Ava. Firefighters say the containment rate is about 10%.

“We have a good fire response this evening and are asking people to use alternate routes and avoid the Glade Top Trail area for their own driving safety as well as the safety of firefighters working along the road,” said Cody Lunsford, Ava District Ranger. /Cassville/Willow Springs.

Residents of the area reported the fire on Monday evening. The fire burns fallen cedar and wood litter. Possible heavy smoke will reduce visibility traveling along the Glade Top Trail this evening and over the next few days.
